We had the good fortune to meet Angela, The Westcoast Mama, through a parent-infant drop-in group almost two years ago. Neither of us lived in the neighbourhood that the group was in, but we both found that the Dunbar group was better than the ones in our own neighbourhoods, so we’d make the trip across town each week to meet up with other parents and babies to commiserate and celebrate.
Now that our kids have all “graduated” from the program, a small group of us keeps in touch for infrequent get-togethers. Miles and I always used to arrive late and somewhat frazzled, since he was often such a bad napper.* Angela and Joshua always seemed so calm and self-assured by comparison! I feel like I was constantly pestering Angela for suggestions and advice, as though she’d been through all this before, instead of having a son only 6 weeks older than mine.
Angela usually showed up at our baby-group reunions with an enormous camera, and last summer she took some really lovely photos of Miles. It turns out she wasn’t just getting lucky; in addition to being a professional accountant, she also has a secret identity as a photographer. Last fall we asked her to take some pictures of us that we could use for a Christmas card. They turned out really well, despite the fact that it was a blindingly sunny day and Miles wasn’t really into it.
This year we decided to try to turn the fall photo shoot into a tradition, and managed to squeeze in a session between days of rainy weather and before the arrival of Joshua’s little sister. As always, the photos are amazing and Angela was lots of fun to work with. Here are a few of our favourites. There are a few more posted on Angela’s blog as well.
* Times have changed. Today Miles’s nap clocked in at a solid 3.5 hours! He was all tuckered out from running around at Gramma and Grampa’s house last night for Grampa’s retirement party. Miles had a ball and worked the room like a pro.
