What a week!

Well, that was quite the week. Oh wait, it’s been more than a week since I posted? You don’t say! It’s been almost 2 months? For shame!

I am not quite sure where the end of September, all of October and the first few days of November have gone. We’ve certainly been busy, with good things (learning to walk!) and bad things (a terrible case of “the scoots” and a flooded apartment), but somehow I feel like there are still stretches of time that are unaccounted for. Perhaps it’s my habit of thinking of blog posts in my head while nursing Miles–it’s as though somehow once I’ve had the thought, it gets labelled “done” and I move on, never having actually put finger to keyboard.

So, here are things we’ve been up to:

  • The Apple Festival at UBC was a lot of fun! We went with Gramma and Grampa and all enjoyed some apple pie.

  • Our apartment got flooded by our neighbours across the hall who left a pot on the stove and triggered their sprinklers. Fortunately we were home and were able to mop up the water as it came in so none of our stuff was wrecked, but our suite was quite badly damaged. We had 8 heaters/fans and 2 dehumidifiers running 24/7, so we hightailed it out to stay with Gramma and Grampa for a few days, and then over to Victoria to stay with Granny for a week. Miles loved it! Ferry rides, dogs, lots of extra attention… he was a happy dude.

  • Halloween was much enjoyed, from picking a pumpkin to a party fully of costumed babies. We had fun carving our pumpkin to look like Miles – complete with 3 teeth!
  • Last but certainly not least, Miles has learned to walk! He’s pretty steady for about 6 feet at a time; after that he dives for his destination like a baseball player sliding into home! He hasn’t yet mastered the fine art of pulling himself up, so I guess it’s not quite accurate to say he’s completely done with learning to walk, but he’s well on his way. He is so proud of himself, and loves to carry things around to people (current favourites are the remote control for our stereo or a sock).  We don’t have any photographic evidence of this yet because we’re too smitten with watching him, and also too preoccupied with standing by to catch him just in case!

So, now that we’re mostly caught up on the Miles front, I hope to be able to return to more regular postings, including a few recipes that have recently entered the rotation here to great acclaim from all palates.
